Have you ever just wished you could get past today so you could get onto the blessings of tomorrow? You’ve thought the future will be much better when you have a nicer house, when you have a nicer child, when you have a nicer job. When the problems you are currently experiencing disappear, when things are better, then you’ll be happy. . . then you’ll feel blessed. If you’ve felt this way, you are not alone, I’ve been there. Unfortunately, there is a big problem with having this “the-blessings-are-in-tomorrow” attitude.
Sometimes we get so focused on the end of an issue, how our problems will work out, and the resolution of our troubles, we forget God is at work in the now. We forget that blessings aren’t just in the future when we experience our break through; they’re not in the far-off future. The blessings are also in the process as God transforms us as we wait, moving in us and changing us from glory to glory. The blessings are in the process as God teaches us truths about Himself that we would have never discovered had we not experienced our difficulty. And the blessings are in every day miracles like family and friends, experiencing laughter over a good joke, joy over a sunrise, and being able to get out of bed in the morning.
Because these things are true, let’s live in the now, being mindful that miracles are happening in our lives every day as we wait on God and witness His unfolding plan. God’s will is not only in the far-off future. God’s will is also now. Should we live as if the blessings are only in the future and everything between now and then a burden, we may just look back at the end of our lives and realized we missed many blessings in our everyday moments.
God is at work in the now. Don’t forget to take note of the good God has given you in your life today.
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
